Magic Link
A one-click sign-in link sent to a teacher's school email.
Teachers sign in by clicking a link emailed to their school address. Confirms the teacher owns the email address before signing in, and lets them personalize the Hub (star resources, save preferences).
How it works
Teacher enters their school email at the Hub.
A one-time sign-in link arrives in their inbox.
They click the link within 10 minutes and they're in.
Sessions last 30 days, so teachers don't get bumped out mid-class.
What district IT can do
Two small mail-system tweaks help magic links arrive reliably:
- Allowlist the Modern Classrooms Project sender domain so sign-in emails aren't quarantined.
- Exclude our sign-in domain from URL rewriting. Some mail security tools rewrite links in incoming mail, which can invalidate the magic link before the teacher clicks it.
If a link doesn't arrive, district mail filtering is almost always the cause. See the runbook.
Links expire after 10 minutes
A sign-in link is essentially a password — short expiry is intentional. If it expires, the teacher requests a new one.
